Impact evaluation of interventions addressing social determinants of health (SDH)

Overview of impact evaluation methods and its application to SDH policies and programs

20 hour online course

This online course will provide a review of the methods for evaluating the impact of policies or programs that could be health-sector specific, or could originate from other sectors, but with the primary view of improving health.

The course will cover both the quantitative methods of attributing impact as well as largely qualitative approaches that are used to understand the reasons why the policy or program were effective or not, including the role of context in implementation, and the potential for unintended consequences. The course will explore how to deal with program and system complexity within the evaluation.
